TAPPING FOR POWER

Using the Power Drop Harness

The easiest way to obtain power for your aftermarket components is via the factory supplied Power Drop. It is located below the fuse panel under the glove compartment..

As per the diagram, the Power Drop harness will initially be plugged into the dummy hole.

Here are the color codes:

ORN - Fuse Output - Battery
PNK - Fuse Output - Ignition
BLK - Ground

If for some reason you can't tap into the Power Drop, then you always have the option to tap directly into the fuse block

Tapping Into A Used Slot of the Fusebox

Tapping into the mini-ATM fuse requires a couple simple steps.

  1. Strip 1/4" off the end of the wire
  2. Insert the wire into the slot where the fuse tab enters
  3. Push the fuse into the slot (the fuse will securely hold the wire)

NOTE:
Always make sure that the wire you are tapping with has its own inline fuse. Only tap with wires which demand under 5amps of power (ie - cellular phone, radar detector etc.) Do not use the fuse panel for powering amplifiers or other high current demanding components.

Tapping into an Unused Slot of the Fusebox

If you don't have an ATM fuse tap, you can easily customize one to fit the fuse receptacle.

  1. Start with an semi-insulated male quick disconnect
  2. Trim off both sides and the top so that it matches the tab on the fuse
  3. Push it into the receptacle as you would a fuse.

NOTE:
If you don't have an insulated or semi-insulated quick disconnect, always wrap any exposed metallic areas with electrical tape.

As you can see, both tapping methods are used here. The accessory (Accsy) wire is tapping into the switched power drop fuse slot and the 12v Hot wire is tapping into an unused slot using a modified male quick slide connector.

For the ground, I found it easier to drill a ground screw into the fuse panel's frame.
